DR Report 2009
by Barry and Sonia Burnett
The Pioneer Evangelism class at First Baptist Church of Santiago resulted in several baptisms as a result of the Bible studies given in the various barrios (neighborhoods). I am training my pastor Pedro Juan Gonzalez how to teach the class so he taught for three weeks. Check out the site for pictures of the baptisms at the following site: web.me.com/barrysburnett/Site/FBC_Santiago_Baptisms
The Dominican Baptist Youth Camp was held in La Vega where about 300 kids and leaders shared in worship and learning for a 5 days. I had the honor in giving one of the sessions to this great group of youth. This site has more: http://web.me.com/barrysburnett/Site/Youth_Camp.html.
Gustavo Kornitz is a Jewish born Argentine who was raised in Brazil. He and his wife later moved to Memphis, TN. He was invited by a friend to join a team from Germantown Baptist Church to help translate in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He came with the team this past June. The miracle is that after translating the gospel of Jesus time and time again, he was convinced about the good news of Jesus for his own life and professed this truth to the group. He and his wife began to study the scripture and she made Jesus the Lord of her life this month. Praise God for his marvelous work. Here is Gustavo Kornitz: http://web.me.com/barrysburnett/Site/Gustavo_Kornitz.html.
Our family visited the US for three weeks during the month of July. During that time we shared in worship with three different churches across the US. Their styles of worship were all distinct, but each is involved in missions. Check out the following site to find out where we were: http://web.me.com/barrysburnett/Site/Churches_Visited_while_in_US.html.
During the time in the US we also visited with friends and family who have supported our missions efforts over the years. It was a time to reconnect with our son Erik who is a senior at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He graduates this December with a degree in Biology. Check out the sites of our friends and family time: http://web.me.com/barrysburnett/Site/Friends.htmlhttp://web.me.com/barrysburnett/Site/Family.html.
We are reminded this month the blessing of having family times together, sharing in our friends’ lives and Christ’s Church growing and prospering wherever His Spirit is leading.
